…Now With More Blocks!
Just swapped out old them…um…can’t remember…Agency Pro?…for Essence Pro, and I like it pretty well so far for a simple site that needs to just let the content shine.
I don’t prefer to have much in the way of images on my site, as it distracts/detracts from what this site is meant to be. I mean, would you wear a shirt with a big picture on it to a job interview? No. Therefore I put some colors up as the hero images.
However, I didn’t like the padding on the posts page. I found a really helpful snippet here on StackExchange by Omar Tariq, and I just edited the style and the function name. In my case since I only wanted to edit the style on the /blog/ page, the posts page must be only that. From the WordPress.org code reference pages:
The blog homepage is the page that shows the time-based blog content of the site. home() is dependent on the site’s “Front page displays” Reading Settings ‘show_on_front’ and ‘page_for_posts’. If a static page is set for the front page of the site, this function will return true only on the page you set as the “Posts page”.
I also didn’t like the vertical line in the site-inner class so changed that. Really a great theme just out of the box and totally integrated with Gutenberg.
I am really liking Gutenberg so far, inasmuch as I believe that making, editing and maintaining a site needs to become easier and easier. Gutenberg as a concept supports that, and it is helping to keep WordPress competitive with Wix and Squarespace. Your site is your dialogue the world and your Yellowpages listing and your storefront and your reputation. We (as developers and webmasters and concerned citizens) need to keep making it easier and easier for the average user to handle their website.
