Pixabay is a wonderful resource for great, free images for your site. You can search by description, image type, color or orientation (vertical/horizontal). There is a “buy them a cup of coffee” space to leave them a donation, which I was happy to do. (doesn’t that remind you of “…and one for yourself” in some pubs?)

Another one I like is Subtle Patterns. The descriptions of some of the background images are hilarious. “I scanned a paper coffee cup. You know, in case you need it.”
