Well, we all know the retort to that one (“…then what does an empty desk mean?”). And here’s what the New York Times thinks about the state of your desk. But what really drove me nuts about my workspace was my cords – I have a standing desk and I always hated walking in the room and seeing random cords of varying lengths and thicknesses dangling haphazardly from the back. I especially hated having my power and ethernet cables constantly falling and having to fish them back through between the wall and the desk every day.
Amazon, once again, to the rescue! They sold me a couple of cord management boxes (in my case, just a simple black plastic box with holes in the end for the cables to snake out of elegantly), a regular old cord concealer and some really ingenious sticky cord holders to peel and stick to the back side of my standing desk (really, a repurposed work bench from Home Depot, complete with a hand crank). Things are so much tidier; your mileage may vary, but if I don’t grimace as I walk into my little office, I am much that much more productive.
Next target – the tech junk drawer. We all have them, and they are full! Let me know if you have any tips or tricks for clearing out the tech clutter in your office and in your life.
